Enter the wonderful and wondrous world of Scotch whisky! From the smoky and peaty to the smooth and supple, experience everything that this delicious drink has to offer.

Whether you’re a whisky newbie or a seasoned veteran, there will be something interesting and unique for everyone. We’ll sample a selection of 6 whiskies from the 4 corners of Scotland, at a variety of price points and a variety of styles. Cask strength? Special finishings? Private bottlings? We’ve packed them all into one awesome tasting lead by Sommelier Jesse Willis.

Step right up, spin the wheel and take your best shot. The price is right! Or is it?

We may not have a wicked host extolling the virtues of spaying your cat, but we do have an awesome line-up of wine and a majestic evening of wine tasting lined up!

Just because a wine happens to me more expensive, does that mean it’s going to be more delicious? Can you always tell the difference between a “cheap” wine and something more expensive? Does good wine have to be expensive? Why does the sound of velcro make me shudder? The answers to these pressing questions and much more lie within the walls of the eclectic Vine Arts tasting room.

Here’s how it’s going down. We’ll be sampling a line of up eight wines grouped in pairs of two, Each pair will feature a wine from the same grape variety and general region, with one of the wines being on the affordable end of the scale and one carrying more of a special occasion price tag. The wines will be served blind. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to decipher which glass contains the more expensive wine and which wine is it’s more frugal bedfellow. The results just may surprise you…

Epic Aged Wine! $80 – Saturday, June 9 2012 

The question of aging wine is a common one here at Vine Arts. Do wines get better as they age? Which wines have the ability to age? Does an older wine taste better/different from a young wine?

We feel that the best way to answer these questions is to track down some wines in their golden years and get to tasting!

Join us in the Vine Arts tasting room for this unique opportunity to taste through a line up of wines that have been slumbering in a cellar for a minimum of 10 years. White, red, fortified, sparkling…we’ll run the gauntlet of geriatric vino and see what happens!

We have the unique opportunity to source out some hard to find, perfectly stored wines from around the world! Don’t miss out on this tasting…it promises to be both extremely informative and delicious at the same time.

Crazy Cask Scotch Whisky $70 – Thursday, June 21st 2012

They say that a Scotch whisky gets up to 70% of its flavours, aromas and colour from the barrels that it was aged in. In this tasting we’ll discover what happens when distillers go wild and experiment with funky, fun and off the beaten path cask aging and finishing. Rum casks? Wine casks? Port casks? You name it, we’ll try it!
