Wine of the Week: 2007 Palacios Remondo La Vendimia Rioja

palacio rioja

This vibrant red, made by famed Spanish winemaker Alvaro Palacios, is a perennial favourite of mine and a sure bet to bring to your next party or dinner. Made in the famous Spanish region of Rioja and comprised of 50% Tempranillo (one of Spain’s most important grape varieties) and 50% Garnacha (the Spanish name for Grenache) this juicy red is more than just a pretty label.

Unlike some of the wines from Rioja this wine see’s very little aging in oak barrels, helping to maintain it’s lively nature and preserve the fresh fruit aroma’s and flavours. This wine leaps from the glass with beautiful aromatics and glides across the tongue with bright notes of cherry, strawberry and vanilla. This wine is perfect for enjoying with a good book and it’s lively acidity and medium body make it a great companion for a wide range of dishes. And with a shelf price of around $20.00 this won’t break the bank either.

Enjoy!
