Wine of the Week: Some Young Punks “Passion has Red Lips”

Excuse me miss...you seem to have missplaced a few buttons...how terrible!

This is a perfect example of why Aussie wines rocketed to popularity in the last decade or so. Juicy, rich and with great packaging to boot, this provides pure and simple drinking pleasure without being overblown or out of control.

As the name suggests, this label was created by a group of young wine makers using the general “South Australia” designation. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (54%) and Shiraz(46%), the bright red and black fruit flavours of this wine perfectly echo the vivid pin-up imagery on the label.

This wine was recommended on a recent trip to Metrovino Fine Wines (www.metrovino.com) by my good friend Al. I often overlook the wines of Australia in favour of my favourite French, Italian and Spanish wines. This served as an excellent reminder that the Australians do indeed make some tasty juice.

Cheers,

Jesse
